how can i remove generation of <episode-num tags in output xml?

i dont want to see these strings in my iptv app

What do you mean? How?
Is it post xml generation operation? Can i configure tool not to generate episodes info on first place?

in configuration enable <postprocess grab="y" run="y">rex</postprocess> then in the rex.config set the path to your guide.xml and just the tags for episode.
Example attached is to modify description and add elements to it, you can cancel it if you do not like it.

in guide.xml , i still see this for every program: "E2"

i think you missed :
The xmltv target file in which the updated data will be merged with the grabbed EPG.
Because of the incremental nature of the grabbing process this file must be different (name and/or path) from the target file of the grabbing as specified in WebGrab++.Config.xml

you need to specify a different filename...try that please

ok, now each programs contains 2 duplicated records, w\o the episode string

issue resoled, the rex cong you provided still contined episode tag built in
