Error after updating to v3.2

WG++ v3.1.7 going to WG++ v3.2
Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)
Mono JIT compiler version 6.8.0.123

Hi everyone,

since I've updated wg++ I get this error:

Unhandled Exception:
System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type of field 'WG.Common.InvalidSyntaxException:_MessageList' (3) due to: Could not load file or assembly 'netstandard, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=********' or one of its dependencies.
[ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type of field 'WG.Common.InvalidSyntaxException:_MessageList' (3) due to: Could not load file or assembly 'netstandard, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=********' or one of its dependencies.

It also doesn't create any logs. I still have the logs from the last time it ran succesfully. So I don't think they're relevant for this issue.
There was a PublicKeyToken but I censored it because I did'nt know whose it was.

My suggestion is to delete the .lic files, under /home/ubuntu/.local/share/WebGrab+Plus/License or the root/user you use to grab. Then run a force license update.

Unfortunately that did’nt work. I got the same error.

Are you sure that when you updated, you copied also the dll files (all the files) into .wg++/bin ?

Yes, I'm sure.

I've reverted back to 3.1.8 and that got it working again but now it says my license is expired.

I don't really mind staying on this version unless I get adviced otherwise.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Fixed the license (and at the same time the hardware mismatch) issue by adding >f,h< / license > to the config.

I think you using docker or you reformatted your pc....license had similar ID and got blocked, run a force update license and should be ok

ok..what site are you trying to grab? can you try with sample config https://github.com/SilentButeo2/webgrabplus-siteinipack/tree/master/site...
Although i think is a connection problem (i had this sometimes in windows using vpn), so would be good if you can try on your pc first just to make sure it all works.Make sure your dns is set to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.222.222.
Last also have a look in forum for synology posts.
ps
welcome to the club

thanks for the welcome.

it fails with any site i try to grab. but here are some examples:

Eurosport

BBC 1

it doesn't even grab the license, as the license log looks like this

[ ] WebGrab++ license request and update log
[ ] 2021/08/04 12:10

so i think it fails before getting to siteini, maybe fails during license check or even before, very early on.

i suspect this might have to do with mono 5.20 for synology, as same 3.2.1 version works on my mac with mono 6.x. unfortunately, there is no newer mono than 5.20 on synology...

could you test your 3.2.1 quick fix with mono 5.20?

thanks!

i don't think is mono related, rather i would make sure your synology dns is set to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.222.222
Talking with Jan (he had a synology) he mentioned he had problems with wg crash due to DNS.

Set the synology DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.222.222 as suggested.

nslookup wgpluspluslicense.file.core.windows.net
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
wgpluspluslicense.file.core.windows.net canonical name = file.ams06prdstr12a.store.core.windows.net.
Name: file.ams06prdstr12a.store.core.windows.net
Address: 52.239.143.200

Unfortunately it still fails with the same error despite this DNS setting.

I’m now getting the same error greenmountain is getting unless I start the grab manually.

So whenever it starts through crontab I get that error.

So whenever it starts through crontab I get that error.

Strange, how do you run it manually ? with "./run.sh" or with "mono WebGrab+Plus.exe" which user do you run it manually ? also is cron under root or user ?

Because I'm using a container,
I start the grab by going in to the defaults/ directory and running ./update.sh (after doing the command chmod +x update.sh once) This way it's run by root.

I don't know how to check if cron is under root or user within the container. If someone has the answer to that, that would be appreciated.

crontab -l will list your crontab, you can check both when you run as root or user
chmod only set as executable does not change owner

I think you’re on to something.

When I enter crontab -l within the container, I get the message: “no crontab for root“

So, I’m guessing that whenever something is run through cron its done by the user. I don’t know how to change that.

this happens due to old .license files (you can delete them in /home/(user/root)/.local/share/WebGrab+Plus/License/) or due a missing contact with azure server for license, most probably a dns problem.
i have also seen it running wg on unix first as root and then as user (permission on files problem).
besides this 3 factors can't think of anything else, but it is strange as there are other users that have wg working on nas.

I deleted the /home/(user/root)/.local/share/WebGrab+Plus/License/ folder (it was empty). I gets created after each failed run, but empty. No .license files inside...

The DNS is set as per your earlier suggestion

Set the synology DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.222.222 as suggested.

nslookup wgpluspluslicense.file.core.windows.net
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

it's empty as it is unable to contact the server, it is strange because if you run siteinipack_update.sh you said it works.
Some user had to create symlinks and make storage mount with smb (http://webgrabplus.com/content/error-after-fresh-installation-synology-nas)
last you may want to contact the authors to see if anything wrong with your license

Thanks. There is nothing wrong with the license. As said earlier, it works on the Mac, in the same network, same 3.2.1 version, same config and with the license I have. I continue to suspect the Mono version, which differs between Synology and Mac, or some corner cases that 3.2.1 Beta doesn't resolve. I don't exclude some permissions issues but I checked everywhere in the /wg folder and the permissions seem ok for all files.

I have webgrabplusplus in the docker on Synology NAS, after the last UpDate, unfortunately the webgrab does not work. A similar problem to one of the people above.
I tried to delete WebGrab completely and installed a completely new copy. Unfortunately, nothing helped. Everything was working before the last update.

@wampas - Thanks a lot! That was a great tip. I also reverted to 3.1.8 and works like a charm! So to me, there must still be an issue introduced in 3.2 / 3.2.1

Hello Guys,

first of all thanks for all the good and fast support you give.
Unfortunatly I am having the same problem as descirbed in the first port here. And I have already updated to 3.2.1
I am running the Grabber on a Windows 10 System.

Eventually it can help also as I am only seeing linus systems with the same problem.

The Update of the Siteini runs without problem, so a connection problem can be excluded.

Please help and tell me what you may need more to find the problem.

systemd-resolve returns my local router for DNS, which is correct because all DNS is handled there.

Why should it do that? I'm not using Google DNS and external DNS services are not reachable on my internal network because of firewall restrictions.
My router is handling all DNS requests (internal domains and external services) so I don't have any need to even query
external DNS services on my client boxes.
